Short Shorts: VChic Trend Alert:

Spring is here at last and for those of us who worked out those legs over the colder months are eager to show them off in one of the sexiest fashion staples of the season. The most popular type of shorts this year are definitely denim, but with a twist. Colorfully dyed, patchwork, distressed, embroidered, patched and appliqued; we’re seeing jean shorts in a whole new light. I found several styles at one of our favorite retailers, Singer22, and I had to share them. These super sexy and super short shorts are guaranteed to turn some heads and keep you cool while looking hot this spring and summer. Check them out.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Olivia Ethnic Printed Panel Studded Shorts

These hot high-waisted shorts feature a fun ethnic inspired print on one leg and fun studs on the opposite pocket. I’d love to see these paired with a black bandeau style top or even a red bikini. They could be dressed up a bit with a more conservative black tank and a pair of booties. You could also go more glam with a gold/bronze tube top and strappy platform sandals. However you style these remember to keep it fun and surprising but don’t wear them with too many other prints as it could look too busy and uncoordinated.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Roxxy Leopard Panel Shorts in Jet Black

Leopard print is the reigning queen of all print this season. We’ve seen it everywhere from bags and accessories to shorts, pants and dresses. These shorts feature a two tone effect with black denim and leopard print panels on the legs. I’d like to see them paired with something bright red like an off the shoulder cropped T or a simple red tank. You could wear them with a casual pair of flat thigh high boots and a bandeau for a super hot Coachella inspired look. I’d probably go for a sheer gauzy white peasant style top with a nude bikini underneath and a pair of jewel encrusted flat sandals  for a casual chic vibe. Bright red flats would also make a nice statement with them. Remember to keep the accessories minimal when wearing such a sexy pair of loud printed short shorts.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Vintage American Flag Shorts

American flags are also another big trend for spring and summer. Shoe designers like Jeffrey Campbell are covering booties in them, and they’ve been spotted on everything from purses to sweaters and cropped T shirts. These fun cutoff denim shorts with American flag patches on the legs are a great way to show off your patriotism and sport this trend while looking hot. I wouldn’t wear a flag T with my shorts as the model did here, but instead pair them with a simple white tank and tall platform booties. I’d also like to see these paired with flat thigh high boots and a cropped T for a casual feel. However you style them remember to keep it casual as these shorts are all about looking more like a fun and free hippie as opposed to a glammed up vixen.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Acid wash Black Hip Pocket Studded Shorts

These shorts have a bit less going on than the others, but they’re just as sexy and fun. I love the grey color and the extreme distressing is incredibly cool and grungy. I love how the model has styled them here with a loose fitting long sleeve T and tall bright red booties. For summer I’d go for a lighter look by wearing a white oversized T and tall brightly colored platform booties. They’d also look great with simple flat sandals, flip flops or even a pair of trendy fashion sneakers. The color of these shorts makes them very versatile and you could even wear them in cooler months by layering them over a pair of black opaque tights and adding a fun printed sweater.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Acid Wash Hip Pocket Studded Shorts

I love the vintage acid wash effect of these extremely short high waisted shorts. The silver pyramid studs add a rock & roll vibe that is ideal for a pair like this. You could play up that vibe by pairing these with a cropped white tank and black combat boots. They’d also look great with a pair of studded black wedge sandals and a corset style tank. A pair of plain but interesting short shorts like this is ideal if you only want to purchase one pair this season. You could even wear them with a tied front paid shirt and tennies for a playful school girl look. However you style them remember that confidence and comfort is key and go for whatever makes you feel the sexiest.

RUNWAYDREAMZ Handmade Vintage Hand Dyed Hot Pink/Purple 613

These shorts are one of my favorites this year. I love the unexpected hot pink-ish purple color and the frayed hems add an extra 70’s vibe that I adore. These shorts have an updated bohemian feel. They’d look hot with a cropped dark orange-ish brown tank or T. You could also dress them up a bit with a sheer black knit top and black sparkly heels. I’d pair them with a pair of leopard print pumps and a black tank for a fun trendy look, or maybe even a pair of gold booties and a neutral top.

If you decide to order any of these styles remember that they’re all refurbished vintage jeans so they sizing will run small and styles will vary slightly. Most importantly, remember to have fun with them and wear them comfortably to look as sexy and confident as possible. If you need some tips on getting your legs and bikini area smooth before you try a pair of these check out a previous post on hair removal here. (insert link for old post here)

Bonitas Cutoff Shorts – Acid wash

Here is another pair of great versatile short shorts from NastyGal. As the other more basic styles you can pair these with everything from  shirts and sandals to shimmery or sheer knits and sky high heels. How yu style them depends on your mood and the occasion, just remember to keep the look summery and chic by avoiding stuffy fabrics and carrying summer inspired accessories.

Roller Cutoff Shorts Jet Black

These shorts may be some of the shortest we’ve ever featured. I love the edginess that they would add to any outfit. You could go completely sexy and pair these with a white bikini for the beach or a pool party. You could pair them with thigh high black boots and a glittery black tank for a super sexy club look. They’d also look great with a pair of fringed booties and a bandeau style top for a boho-chic vibe. Any way you style these hot little shorts they’re guaranteed to turn some heads and make you look as sexy as shorts can. Go ahead and check them out. Then tell us how you feel. Which of these trendy short short styles is your favorite? Which would you snag this season. We want to know!

Trend Alert: Dare to Go Bare – From Pajama Dressing to Lingerie Inspired Looks

Sheers, cutouts, lace, silk and mesh; we’re starting to see fabrics and styles everywhere that were once only deemed bedroom appropriate. The trend seems to go from one end of the spectrum to the other. On one end we’ll see flowing silk pants paired with airy tanks reminiscent of your favorite silk pajamas or kimono. On the other end sultry pinup inspired bedroom looks reign supreme featuring sorest style midriff baring bra tops paired with ruffle covered boy-shorts. Either way the looks invoke a sense of romance that other more modern looks don’t touch.

Let’s take a look at some of our favorite pieces and looks that appeal to this new underwear as outerwear trend. First we’ll begin with the pajama dressing trend. The thing that makes this look so edgy and sexy is the sheerness of the fabrics and the casual sultry feel of bare shoulders wrapper in a sheer silk caftan. Check out these styles.

Alexis Sheer Pant with Smocked Waistband in Mosaic Blue

The sheerness and flow of these pieces has a very ethereal feel that I love. You could pair a simple white tank with the pans and a pair of jeweled flats for a resort chic feel.

Working Girl Shorts in Coral – These soft coral shorts have a sweet and sassy pajama vibe. I’d also pair them with cropped tanks or my favorite distressed band T and studded booties. They could also be dressed up with pointy toe pumps, a corset style tank, and a sheer knit cardigan.

Now we begin to see the trend taking an even sexier turn. Lace and cutouts are really hot, especially when paired with leather, suede, studs or wooden elements. Check out some of these more lingerie than pajama inspired pieces.

Fleur Lace Bustier

This bustier could work with tons of skirts and shorts this spring and summer. For cooler nights I’d cover up with a leather moto jacket or deconstructed denim vest.

Velvet Corset Shorts

Imagine these velvet corset shorts paired with a red polka dot bustier and cork wedge sandals for a pin up vibe. They could also work with flat biker boots and an oversized printed sweater for a sexy but casual Sunday lounging look.

Strapped Chiffon Dress

This dress is recommended as shown without a bra especially for clubs gives you the sultry look. I’d love to see it with thigh high boots or maybe lace tights and a pair of unexpected leopard print or red suede booties.

Good Girl Gone Bad Bustier

This bustier screams rock and roll. I’d juxtapose the toughness of this top with a sheer flowy skirt and suede ankle boots. You could also go for ripped denim short, and a pair of sparkly flats for a casual but edgy look.

Tiered Chiffon Tank

This tank could work with shorts and skirts (in the bedroom or out). I’d also love to see it paired with a long sheer black maxi skirt and huge platform sandals. You could even pair this tank over another T for a more conservative look. Slip a pair of leather leggings underneath and carry a python print clutch for a super edgy and fun spring look.

Remember, the key to trying this super edgy and daring trend is that you have to be comfortable in the outfit. If some of the looks are a bit too bare slip another sheer layer underneath or over. If you love the sass and edginess of these pieces then try one ASAP and let us know how sexy it made you look and feel.

Style Inspiration: Jennifer Gilmore by Zanita Morgan for Fashion Gone Rogue

We recently discovered a shoot from one of our favorite fashion sites, Fashion Gone Roque. The lovely model is Jennifer Gilmore and she was artistically shot by Zanita Morgan. Styled by Bec Golowenko in relaxed 90’s style pieces, Jennifer is the definition of casual-chic in distressed tees and edgy accessories like leather jackets and gold cuffs. Let’s take a look at the shots featured in Fashion Gone Rogue. I think this look will be a huge trend this spring.

The constant in each of these looks is the casual 90’s style represented in ripped T’s and moto style leather jackets. The color palette is kept very neutral and the lines are very flowing and minimal. A couple of her looks really caught my eye as outfits that could transcend into spring and summer trends.

My favorite of all of these looks is the white ripped maxi T-shirt dress, black booties and bold gold cuffs. This look is completely wearable yet totally chic and inspirational. Her long windblown locks finish this look perfectly. Adding a leather jacket on top would add an extra dose of edge and interest that could easily take this look into even the coolest of summer nights. I’d wear an outfit like this while shopping at an outdoor market or while having lunch with friends.

This ensemble is completely effortless and casual yet somehow seductive and chic. Like the other black and white pieces in this collection the tank and shorts in this outfit have the same ragged 90’s inspired vibe. I’d love to see her shoe choice with this tank and short combo. I’d pair them with black studded flats or even biker style flat boots. A turban and a sheer knit sweater would add depth and layers to this look. I’d top it off with a black leather backpack for a truly Friends-esque feel that Rachel and Monica would have envied.

A third look that caught my eye was Jennifer in this Leonardo DiCaprio screen printed tank dress. The contrast of black and white makes such a strong statement. This trend has been spotted more and more lately. New York Fashion Week boasted tons of screen printed T’s and tops with screen printed faces and animal images. I’m a huge fan of this look for its versatility and fun approach. You could wear Jennifer’s Leo dress with a pair of trendy flat loafers or platform lace up ankle boots.

However you try to implement this inspiration in your spring and summer wardrobe, remember that a minimal approach works best. You could even experiment by ripping your own T’s or knotting an oversized T to make a sexy mini dress. Let your hair air dry, then tousle it with a blow dryer for a loose and sexy look. Accessorize with a pair of tough leather boots and a vintage silver pendant necklace. Just remember to take a note from Jennifer Gilmore and embrace the seductive casual-chic sexiness that she did in this exclusive shoot for FashionGoneRogue.

More Dare to Go Bare

While each season comes with new trends, for most of us not all of them transcend into actual everyday wear. Luckily 2012 seems to have brought plenty of casual-chic trends that are very wearable and versatile. From printed T’s to barren midsections, many of this year’s trends are reminiscent of 90’s styles. However, this year’s most popular styles are much fresher, edgier and have a modern feel. Check out our top 5 (wearable) trends to try in 2012.

Denim Done Differently: While denim has been a fashion staple for years, this year we’re seeing a new take on our old jeans. This year we’ll see lots of chambray shirts paired with bright or printed pants, floral skirts, and leather leggings. Super high waisted denim shorts paired with a cropped top is sexy and edgy summer look that would be ideal for a picnic or carnival type of event.

Brightly colored denim is a great way to double dip in the color block and denim trends. Envision a pair of red slim jeans paired with a chambray button up and leopard print booties. Wouldn’t it have a great casual-cool vibe?

Cool Color Blocking: The color blocking trend is a continuation from last season, but this spring the take is bolder, bigger and brighter. Think over the top oranges, poppy pinks, and lime tart greens. Consider pairing bold fuchsias with bright reds. Greens and purples look amazing together as well. Yellows and plums combined create an unexpected complementary color scheme. A vivid color block dress that you’d typically pair with nude or neutral shoes gets amped up this season by pairing it with colorful(or even bright white) heels.  Photos courtesy Singer22 (click on images for website).

Beautifully Bare Midsections: Bare midsections are a back, but in more daring yet non trashy way. This year the key to bearing your tummy is to keep your inseam high so that you don’t show too much skin while looking super sexy and fresh.

Consider a high waisted skirt paired with a pretty cropped crochet tank for a bohemian chic look. High waisted shorts worn with a cropped T give a casual cool yet sultry feel. Also, look for little girl inspired dresses with midriff cutouts for an unexpected twist on the trend.

Shine in Sheer: Whether it’s a lace top or body hugging dress with sheer shorts cutouts sheer pieces are going to be huge for daywear in 2012. The key to pulling off sheer elements is to keep the rest of the look casual and slightly conservative. Envision a top with sheer sleeves paired with denim shorts, or a see through lace T worn with low-rise shorts.

It’s okay to show your bra beneath a sheer shirt as long as it covers and coordinates and the rest of the ensemble is fairly modest. Remember, balance is crucial when trying the sheer trend.

Get Edgy in Graphic Print Tops: Tops and dresses with large (and often animal inspired) graphic prints were frequently spotted at the recent Fashion Week events. The key to keeping this look chic is to pair a casual printed T or knit with a contrasting style like leather shorts or a flirty skirt. I like to wear tops like this with my favorite leather skirt, opaque tights, wedge booties, and plenty of colorful wrist candy. Graphics that feature abstract prints or faces are on point, but avoid cheesy prints with phrases as they look a bit awkward and middle school-ish. Think punk rock edge meets polished and pretty when you go for this edgy vibe.
